AI's advantages have been over-estimated and its costs underestimated. I read recently of a large project entrusted to AI involving a number of corporations that failed so badly that high-priced human experts had to be brought in to rectify the situation. Overall, the project cost more than the promised AI savings.
AI has many costs that were simply ignored.

Just today I saw two viral tweets that had received Community Notes from Twitter users warning that the posts featured AI-generated videos. Both were shared by right wing accounts with large followings, and both were used to spread Islamophobia.

So it turns out Israel's mistake was starting its genocide right after Palestinians gained the ability to quickly share video footage of what's happening in Gaza, but right before the moment when any video footage shared online could easily be dismissed as AI.

Even the big banks that welcomed the revolution are finding that the cost of managing security could rise out of control and exceed the labor cost of the analogue system. Wells Fargo warns: "In today's digital world scammers are using advanced tools like AI to make impersonation scams harder to detect. Caller ID can be spoofed, emails can be faked, voices can be cloned, and images can be altered." This makes Wells Fargo's current security measures vulnerable.
